Researchers have uncovered unique mathematical calculations by Isaac Newton in which the scientist predicted the date of the apocalypse. According to his calculations, the world was supposed to end in 2060. Newton based his computations on a Protestant interpretation of the Bible, correlating dates from biblical history with mathematical formulas.
To determine this date, Newton used the event of Charlemagne’s coronation in 800 AD as a starting point, assuming the apocalypse would occur 1,260 years after the founding of the Holy Roman Empire. By adding 1,260 to 800, he concluded that the apocalypse should happen in 2060. Notably, Newton interpreted the biblical “days” as “years.”
Modern researchers note that the methods Newton employed do not involve complex mathematical analysis, but rather simple arithmetic. In this context, it is difficult to consider him a scientist in the modern sense of the term. Instead, he could be characterized as a “natural philosopher,” as he did not distinguish between science and religion.
