A team of researchers from China and Russia observed the galaxy SDSS J144515.46+492605.4, located 400 million light-years from Earth. Its most distinctive feature is the unusual behavior of gas in its center. Through analysis, scientists identified two black holes: one with 9.4 million solar masses and the other significantly smaller, at just 1.3 million solar masses. Such an extreme mass ratio is exceptionally rare, making this discovery particularly valuable for studying galaxy evolution.

Astronomers suggest that the smaller black hole originally resided at the center of a dwarf galaxy that was absorbed by a larger system. This process is still ongoing, and over time, the smaller black hole will likely merge with the larger one.
