Scientists Discover an Unknown Mineral Harder Than Diamond ECOLOGY

Israeli scientists have discovered a new mineral on Mount Carmel, composed of titanium, aluminum, and zirconium. Similar compounds had previously only been found in meteorites, making this find truly unique. Although the discovery was made back in 2019, details about the mineral have only been revealed now.

The mineral, named carmeltazite, has been found to be harder than diamond, making it highly valuable in terms of physical properties. In addition to its exceptional hardness, it exhibits a striking coloration, ranging from black to blue-green and orange-brown with a metallic luster.

Due to its rarity, extreme hardness, and unusual appearance, carmeltazite has been classified as a precious gemstone. Its discovery could lead to new research in the fields of mineralogy and materials science.
